Up till the the late 1990ties, Awamoa Park served as the home of many different sports from field hockey to cricket, however with the Oamaru Cricket Club moving to the back field of what was then Centennial Park, the ground has been unused by any sporting code. At the ending of the 2007-2008 season the Albion Cricket Club announced it would move its home ground from the Showgrounds to Awamoa Park and play its club cricket there. Awamoa Park contains a artificial wicket that is used when other wickets are unavailable.
