Five cricketers made their North Otago debuts against Mid Canterbury at King George Park on Sunday.

Waitaki Boys' High School student Nathan Smith scored 18 not out and took 2/23 from nine in North Otago's victory.

The 15-year-old's selection came off the back of his fine form for WBHS in which he produced a sterling innings, remaining unbeaten on 168 in Waitaki's downing of Timaru Boys' High School in the year 10 interschool clash.

Eastern's Andrew (17) and Cameron Grubb (18) also made their first appearances, along with Albion's Matt Day (19) and Valley's Reuben Simpson.

Captain Ben Cant said the debutants represented themselves well with some fine performances.

"They did fantastic," he said.

"Andrew (Grubb) and Nathan (Smith) with the bat to finish our innings and all the young seamers did very well."
