Albion reclaimed the Borton Cup for the first time since the 2004/2005 season when it defeated Valley in the final at Whitestone Stadium by 28 runs. Albion was the bottom qualifier for the semi finals but progressed through with a convincing win over top qualifier Union.
Albion won the toss and decided to bat first on the pitch but found runs hard to come by as the pace of the pitch forced batsmen into playing late. Peter Cartwright and Paul Odell took Albion through to 63 for one before Cartwright(15) was dismissed by Hamish McKenzie. Odell (43) went with the total at 93 and he was followed two runs later by Nigel Moriarty who was clean bowled by Blair Malcolm. Brad Kernahan(20) steadied the innings before he was the sixth wicket to fall at 135 in the 45th over. The last four wickets added 25 runs before the innings closed in the 48th over. Reuben Simpson took four for 22 while Hamish McKenzie and Andrew Fisher took two wickets each.
The Valley batsmen failed to come to grips with the pitch and struggled through to 68 for five in the 25th over. Tom Squire(34) and Mark Broughton(21) gave the innings some momentum before the final wicket fell at 132, 29 runs short of victory.
In lower grades Valley took both the Senior Reserve and Second Grade championships with victories over Union in both grades.
