The Borton Cup senior cricket final turned into an anti climax when top qualifier, Valley was beaten by seven wickets by last season's champions, Union at Whitestone stadium on Saturday. Valley's Hamish McKenzie won the toss and elected to bat and the side started solidly at 26 without loss after nine overs. But then it lost three wickets in just two overs to slump to 41 for three after 15 overs with Glynn Cameron claiming two wickets in his first over to have the figures of two for three. Valley slumped to 68 for nine after 29 overs and lost its final wicket at 91 in the 35th over. Cameron finished with four for 14 off his ten overs while Union captain Paul Johnston took three for 27 and Phil Crossan two for 22.
Union started well at 20 without loss after five overs but it then lost Antony Cromwell(13), Jeremiah Shields(7) and Thomas Shields(0) to fall to 32 for three after 10 overs. Cameron and Duncan Drew came together to produce an unbeaten fourth wicket stand of 68 to see Union through to 92 for three in the 25th over. Dave Simpson took two for 31 for Valley.
