Valley, Union have easy wins in Dick Hunt Action

Union and Valley scored wins in the dick Hunt trophy competition played over the holiday period. Valley beat Albion by eight wickets at Weston while Union downed Oamaru by seven wickets.

Albion won the toss and decided to bat first against Valley but the side could face only 19 of its 45 overs before it was dismissed for a meagre 59.The Valley bowlers had a field day. Simon Robins continued his fine form taking three for five off four overs while Hamish McKenzie took three for 14 off his five overs and Scott Young chipped in with two for 19).

Scott Kingan carried his bat to be 21 not out as Valley made 60 for the loss of two wickets in 15.2 overs with Kingan and Jason Frew producing and unbeaten third wicket stand of 29. Dylan Winter took two for 21 off seven overs for Albion.

Oamaru decided to bat first against Union and at 42 for two after 14 overs looked to be set for a good total. After 21 overs Oamaru was poised on 55 for three but the side slumped to be 92 for six after 32 overs before the side was all out for 110 eight overs later. Alex Baddock top scored with 26 and Andrew Sewell made 24. Bowling for Union Nathan Hill took three for six off 7.2 overs while Stu Dickinson and Isaac Shields took two wickets each.

Union started its chase brightly to be 34 without loss after seven overs. Opener Jeremiah Shields led the way with a match winning 42 and with Antony Cromwell added 59 for the first wicket. After 18 overs Union was 110 for three and Sean Conlan and Thomas Shields in an unbeaten fourth wicket stand of 33 saw Union through to 112 for three. Baddock took two for 37 off seven overs for Oamaru.
