Union took the Dick Hunt trophy in the final of the Holiday competition with a comprehensive eight wicket win over Albion at Whitestone stadium on Saturday.
Albion won the toss and decided to bat first. Brad Kernahan batting at three held the side together with an unbeaten innings of 58 with some support from Dylan Winter(19) and Steve Halliwell(12) with the rest were stuck on single figures.
Matt Lilley took three for 22 off his ten overs while Brad Fleming and Paul Johnston took two wickets each.
Union lost opener Jason Todd(6) with the total at 23 but Johnston then combined with Jake Greenslade(18) in a second wicket partnership of 44 before Greenslade was bowled by Ricky Whyte. Johnston(41 not out) and Thomas Shield(39 not out) featured in an unbeaten third wicket stand of 64 to give Union its eight wicket victory.
In the second grade final there was a touch of the winter code when Valley beat Albion by 85 runs. Valley batting first made 202 with former North Otago rugby coach, Barry Matthews top scoring with 58. Albion was dismissed for 137 with current North Otago rugby coach, Mike Mullins top scoring with 29.
