Union maintained its lead in Borton Cup cricket with a four wicket win over Valley. Batting first the Valley batsmen failed to fire band the side was dismissed for 76 in the 34th over. Duncan Drew produced the outstanding figures of three for one off three overs and he was well supported by Paul Johnston,three for 11 off seven overs and Michael Ormandy, two for 14 off six. Union cruised through to 78 for six with Glynn Cameron unbeaten on 40 while Reuben Simpson took three for 18 and Hamish McKenzie, two for 17.
A solid batting performance from the Oamaru top order carried the side to an upset six wicket win over third placed Albion to lift the side off the bottom of the points table. Albion batted first and made 192 before the final wicket fell with Gary Mahuika(46) and Matt Day(31) featuring in a fifth wicket stand of 66. Bowling for Oamaru Francois Mostert took four for eight and Gary Clearwater, three for 45.
Jordan Bartlet(23) gave the Oamaru innings impetus and fellow opener Reece Curle(44) and Josh Gutsell(48) produced a second wicket stand of 95 to guide Oamaru through to 193 for four in the 40th over.
Waitaki Boys High School beat St Kevin’s College by seven wickets at Milner Park. Batting first St Kevin’s made 144 losing the tenth wicket in the 45th over. Player/coach Ben Cant topscored with 62 and Brady Kingan added 22.Bowling for Waitaki Boys Stephan Grobler took two for eight and Troy Looms, two for 16.
A fourth wicket stand of 58 runs between Dallas Mahuika(44 not out) and Lewy Johnston(51 not out) saw Waitaki Boys through to 146 for three with Jake Greenslade adding 22. Bowling for St Kevin’s Matt Brien took two for 28.
