Union will be chasing its fifth Borton Cup victory in the last six seasons after it defeated Valley by eight wickets, when it meets last seasons’ winner, Albion who defeated Waitaki Boys by 21 runs in the other semi final.Union and Albion will face off in the final at Whitestone stadium next Saturday at 12.30p.m. at Whitestone Stadium.
Union won its way to the Borton Cup final with an eight wicket win over Valley in a low scoring semi final.Union won the toss at King George Park and put Valley in to bat. Byron Neale(22) and Reuben Simpson(27) were the only Valley batsmen to show any resistance to the bowling of Paul Johnston who once again took five wickets at a cost of a mere 15 runs while Brad Fleming and Mike Ormandy took two wickets each as Valley collapsed to be all out for 98.Union openers Glenn Cameron(49 not out) and Jeremiah Shields(26) put on 77 for the first wicket and although Union lost the wickets of Shields and Duncan Drew Union cruised to 99 for two with Hayden Tisdall and Mark Broughton taking wickets for Valley.
In the other semi final runs were hard to come by as well at Milner Park Where Waitaki Boys won the toss and asked Albion to bat first.Brad Kernahan(27) was the only Albion batsman to show any real resistance as the Waitaki bowlers led by Stephan Grobler, three for eight and Jake Greenslade, Nathan Smith and Dallas Mahuika took two wickets each as Albion was dismissed for 94. Waitaki Boys never built up momentum and after ten overs had slumped to 22 for six needing 72 further runs to win. Lewy Johnston(38) took Waitaki Boys through to 73 before the final wicket fell. Paul Odell who at one stage early in the innings had taken four for six finished with seven for 20 off his ten overs.
