Albion won the toss and elected to bat first in the Borton Cup final against Union.Union struck early when Matt Lilley in his second over claimed the wickets of Peter Cartwright and Gary Mahuika. Jeremy Smith shouldered arms to a Glynn Cameron and Albion slumped to 32 for four when an Odell edge was deflected to Jason Todd who took the catch.Matt Day went lbw to Cameron and Brad Kernahan was cleanbowled by Cameron to have Albion stuttering at 63 for six. Steve Halliwell(38) and Marshall Smith(30) then featured in a 61 run stand for the seventh wicket to take Albion to 124 for seven. The last three wickets fell for the addition of only eight runs as Albion folded to 132 all out. Lilley finished with four for 27 while Cameron and Brad Fleming took three wickets each.
Union found runs hard to come by battling through to 44 for four with only Jeremiah Shields(28) showing any resistance.The dismissal of Jason Todd and Sean Conlan cheaply saw Union 59 for six and this became 68 for seven with the departure of Ants Cromwell.Paul Johnston, Lilley and Brad Fleming followed quickly as Union was dismissed for 84 in the 34th over. Bowling for Albion Ricky Whyte took three foreight and Jeremy Smith three for 11 while Paul Odel took two for 18.
It wasn’t to be the Union clubs finest hour for its senior reserve side was beaten by Valley by one wicket and Valley took the second grade title beating Union in the final by six wickets.
