Union came through the first two rounds of the Dick Hunt Trophy unbeaten after Saturday's play on artificial pitches at St Kevin's College. In round one, Albion made 100 for nine in its 20 overs with Ian Cooney (21) and Ray Kingan (20 not out) the best of the batsmen. Bowling for Union, Paul Johnston took two for 17 and Michael Ormandy, two for 15. Union replied with 105 for eight with Brad Fleming unbeaten on 41 and Antony Cromwell adding 31. Bowling for Albion Matt Day took three for 15, Scott Guyton, two for 16 and Ricky Whyte, three for five.
Oamaru came out with bats blazing batting first against Valley. Ben Cant was unbeaten on 135 at the end of 20 overs with Reece Curle not out on 38. The pair added 173 runs. Valley struggled through to 84 for seven in 20 overs with Kelvin Mansfield top-scoring with 32, while Cant took two for seven and Josh Tonkin two for 17.
In the second round, Union beat Valley by five wickets. Batting first Valley made 97 all out in the 20th over with Mansfield making 39. Bowling for Union, Matt Lilley took two for nine, Michael Ormandy two for 19 and Duncan Drew three for 11 off three overs. Union replied with 98 for five in the 16th over with Glynn Cameron making 42 and Cameron Leckie taking two for 25 for Valley.
Light rain and bat light saw Albion beat Oamaru on run rate in the other game. Albion made 120 for seven in its 20 overs with Jeremy Smith (24) and Marshall Smith (37) the best of the batsmen, while Nick Johnston took three for 25. When play was abandoned, Oamaru was 87 for four with Cant unbeaten on 64 and Ricky Whyte had taken two for 21.
