A century and a hat trick were the features of North Otago club cricket on Saturday. Union defeated Waitaki Boys High School by 171 runs at King George Park. Valley retained the Payne/Tempero trophy and went to the top of the Borton Cup trouble ladder with an eight wicket win over hitherto unbeaten Albion. Oamaru/St Kevin's College defeated Eastern by ten wickets at the Mill Reserve in Palmerston.

Union batsman, Sean Conlan dominated the Waitaki Boys bowling attack and his innings of; 103(four sixes, ten fours) enabled Union to make 303 for nine before the declaration came with one ball remaining to be bowled. Conlan and Paul Johnston(48) produced a fourth wicket stand of 165. The Union innings was aided by very loose bowling from the Waitaki Boys attack which in all, conceded 56 wides giving Union the equivalent of 9.2 extra overs. Jeremiah Shield added; 30 while bowling for Waitaki Boys Jesse Lusty-Winter took four for 20 and Stephan Grobler, two for 31. Waitaki Boys; was dismissed for 132 in the 35th over with Grobler (33) Harvey Lowe (22) the best of the batsmen. Bowling for Union Brad Fleming claimed five for 29 while Isaac Shields and Glynn Cameron took two wickets each.

Batting first at Weston Albion was dismissed for 152 in the 35th over. Amir Nirva (24), Jeremy Smith (26) and Matt Day (23) were the pick of the Albion batsmen while bowling for Valley Geoff Mavor took three for 40 with; Francois Mostert and Hamish McKenzie taking two wickets each. Valley cruised through to 156 for the loss of two wickets in the 28th over. Mostert (82 not out) and Tom Squire (30 not out) produced an unbeaten third wicket partnership of 89.

Oamaru/St Kevin's moved into third place equal in Borton Cup cricket with a ten wicket win over Eastern. Batting first Eastern was dismissed for; 116 in the 27th over. The Grubb brothers, Cameron and Andrew both made 33 runs each while bowling for Oamau/SKC Matt Murphy took three for 15 and Ed Hall, three for 11. Oamaru/SKC made light of the chase with Ben Cant (67 not out) and Jim Mallinson (41 not out) taking the side through to 118 without loss in the 17th over.

In second grade cricket Albion; batting first made 189 with Kelly Weir (33), Daryl Fraser (30) and Dean Te Aho (28 not out) the best of the batsmen. Bowling for Union Daniel Martin took four for 16, including a hat trick while Richard Napier claimed three for 21.Union replied with 114 with Napier top scoring with 54 while bowling for Albion Weir took five for 25 and Kyle Adamson, three for 22.
