Valley and Albion are tied at the top of the Dick Hunt holiday competition after Saturdays play. Valley defeated Oamaru/St Kevin's by 155 runs at Weston while Albion chased down Union's 135 for nine to win by seven wickets.
Valley batted first against Oamaru/St Kevins and bolstered by fine innings from Lewi Johnson(86) and Cameron Grubb(77) backed by by Francois Mostert(38) saw the final wicket fall in the forty ninth over. Bowling for Oamaru/St Kevins James Ferris marked his return to North Otago cricket with five for 30 while Nick Johnston claimed two for 48.
Apart from Ferris(30) none of the Oamaru/St Kevins batsmen fired and the innings closed at 116 in the thirty fifth over. Cameron Grubb led the way with the ball taking four for 29, while Mostert and Hayden Tisdall took two wickets each.
In a match reduced to forty one overs because of rain mid afternoon Union batting first made 135 for nine in its alloted overs with Dan Conlan standing out with 27 runs. Bowling for Albion Nathan Smith, Jeremy Smith, Dylan Winter and Brady Kingan took two wickets each.A couple of good partnerships saw Albion go through to 136 for three with seven wickets in hand. The Smith brothers Jeremy(65) and Nathan(25) put on 39 runs in an unbeaten fourth wicket stand while Jeremy was the dominant partner in a third wicket stand of 53. It was a special day for Albion's Peter Cartwright who played his two hundred and fiftieth game for Albion on Saturday.
