Tuesday, 20 December 2016

Valley and Albion finished the first half of the Dick Hunt Trophy competition tied at the top of the table after low scoring games on Saturday.

It took Albion over 9.5 overs to pass the Oamaru total at Centennial Park after Oamaru was dismissed for sixty four with Jeremy Smith, three for seven, Dylan Winter, three for twenty four, and Brad Kernahan, two for seventeen scything through the Oamaru batting. Albion needed only 9.2 overs to pass Oamaru's total.

A fighting lower order carried Valley to a three wicket win over Union. Only Sam Bastin(29) and Union captain Brad Fleming(18) showed any real defence as Union was bundled out for seventy seven in the thirty first over. Bowling for Valley youngster Zachary Naldrett took five for seventeen off 4.5 over and Francois Mostert, two for five off five overs. Opener Lachie Kingan(25) gave Valley a good start but the dismissal of Mostert(8) ,leg before, lifted Union's hopes. However a stubborn unbeaten eight wicket stand between a couple of young players, Harry Dennison and Tom Harding defied the Union attack with both unbeaten when the they passed the Union total. Dan Conlan off his ten over finished with four for twenty two backed up by three for 28 off his ten over from Brad Fleming.
