Union maintained a ten point lead in Borton Cup cricket after the seventh round on Saturday with a 50 run win over Waitaki Boys High School. Oamaru retained its second place with a two wicket win over St Kevin's College in a high scoring game while Albion remains in third place with a 44 run win over Valley at Weston.

Union was put into bat by Waitaki Boys at Milner park and started confidently to be 68 for one after 14 overs after losing opener Ants Cromwell for one. The pace slowed a little as Union after 33 overs was 119 for four with Jeremiah Shields(57) and Hamish Robertson(35) leading the way. Thomas Shields(31) and Ben Sheat(26) saw Union through to 189 before the tenth wicket fell in the final over.

Stu Dickinson, Chris Ware, Nathan Hill and Sean Todd took two wickets each for Waitaki Boys.

Only Nathan Hill(65) showed any real aggression with the bat as Waitaki Was dismissed for 139 in the 29th over. Phil Crossan claimed five for 35 off his ten overs while veteran John Crombie took two for 34 off seven overs.

Albion won the toss and batted first at Weston and although it lost Darren Shillito early Jason Greaney(38) and Dylan Winter(50) saw Albion through to 103 for two. Steve Halliwell chipped in with 20 further down the order as Albion was dismissed for 165 in the 34th over. Jason Mavor worked some magic to take four for 37 and Byron Neil, two for 33.

At 104 for two after 22 overs Valley was in with a chance but four overs later the side was dismissed for 121. Byron Neil(20), Neil Gilbert(25) and Mavor(22) were the best of the batsmen while Daniel Fletcher took five for 22 off six overs and Dylan Winter chimed in with three for 47.

On what appeared initially to be a green top minefield at St Kevin's both teams rose above the conditions and a total of 476 runs were scored in the course of the game. Oamaru won the toss and inserted St Kevin's which with ten overs remaining was 158 for four with Sean Conlan making 25. Tom Squire then took to the Oamaru attack with a superb innings of 67 which included six sixes and six fours off 28 balls to see the College side through to 235 for nine after the 45 overs. Sean Robertson provided valuable support with 27. Mark Creighton and Josh Gutsell took two wickets each for Oamaru.

After ten overs Oamaru was 64 for two with Peter O'Malley taking both wickets. With 21 overs still available Oamaru was balanced at 138 for six with Gerry Cunningham(32) and Khalil(22).Regan George(42) and Josh Gutsell(40 not out) upped the rate to carry Oamaru to a winning 241 for eight in the 39th over. Alex Baddock, Peter O'Malley and Tessa Hopkinson took two wickets each for St Kevin's.
