Oamaru/SKC and WBHS to clash in Borton Cup Final

The two bottom qualifiers, Waitaki Boys First X1 and Oamaru/St Kevin’s College will meet in the Borton Cup final next Saturday after upsetting Union and top qualifier Albion respectively in the semi finals at Centennial Park on Saturday.

Top qualifier Albion won the toss against Oamaru/St Kevin’s and decided to bowl first, a decision it was rueing later in the afternoon. Early in Oamaru’s innings Albion had control with the opposition, twenty nine for five but into the crisis came allrounder James Ferris and his apprentice, Jordan Bartlett. This pair then proceeded to produce a six wicket stand of 204 runs with Ferris in imperious form in his innings of 177 which included fourteen fours and twelve sixes. Bartlett was finally out for thirty four as the innings closed at 282 in the forty eighth over. Wicketkeeper batsman Zac Naldrett added twenty runs. Bowling for Albion Reagan George took three for 35 including the wicket of Ferris which he had caught by Scott Guyton ,Ricky Whyte claimed three for 38 while Dylan Winter and Sam Fleming took two wickets each.

The Albion chase ended in the eighteenth over when the final wicket fell at forty six with Dylan Winter top scoring with twenty invaluable runs. Bowling for Oamaru/St Kevin’s Craig Smith took three for sixteen, Matt Murphy, three for 19, James Ferris, two for seven and Nick Johnston, two for two from three overs .

In the other semi final Union batting first against Waitaki Boys was dismissed for 131 runs in the thirty ninth over  with Sean Conlan top scoring with twenty four. Bowling for Waitaki Boys Ben Mavor took three for 28 and Scott Kitto three for 22.

Chasing 132 runs to win Waitaki Boys made work losing nine wickets before passing the target. Francois Mostert led the way with eighty three runs while bowling for Union Blake James took four for 24 and Sam Basinful for forty.
