Oamaru secured the Dick Hunt Memorial Rosebowl holiday competition with a commanding win over Union at King George Park on Friday night.
Chasing 176 for victory in 20 overs, Union lost wickets early, stalling any chance of a successful chase. Bradley Flint struck two key blows, dismissing Thomas Anderson and Blake Martin. Union's innings never gained momentum, eventually crawling to 94/8 at the end of 20 overs 82 runs short of the target. Mason James (24) was the top scorer, while Stephan Grobler continued his fine form with the ball, taking 2-8, while Flint finished with 2-15.
Earlier, Oamaru posted a competitive 175/8 in its allotted 20 overs. Regan George led the charge with an unbeaten 59 off 33 balls, supported by contributions of 20 runs each from Luke Taylor, Jordan Horrell, and Liam Direen. Brad Fleming was the pick of the Union bowlers, finishing with 2-33 from his four overs.
This victory marked Oamaru's record 15th time they have won the Dick Hunt Memorial Rosebow.
Oamaru completed a clean sweep of the holiday competitions on Saturday, defeating Union once again in the Senior Reserve final.
Keelan Chetty top-scored with 37 as Union was bowled out for 99 in their 20 overs. Rouvierre Hattingh starred with the ball, claiming 3-21 from his four overs. Joseph Coetzee (2-12) and Ben Coleman (2-18) took two wickets each.
Oamaru chased down the target in 18.3 overs, with Hattingh anchoring the innings with an unbeaten 41. The final score: Oamaru 100/4. For Union, Hayden Armstrong (2-29) and Glen Curry (2-14) were the standout bowlers.
Saturday also saw the Borton Cup resume with all three games seeing decisive victories. Union defeated Valley by 112 runs, Oamaru beat Waitaki Boys by 187 runs and Albion winning against St Kevins by 100 runs.
