Lack of application cost South Canterbury a win in the Richards Trophy match against North Otago, at Oamaru, over the weekend.
South Canterbury scored only 112 in its first innings and 111 on a fast wicket in its second to lose by three wickets.
The feature of the match was the bowling of C. de B. Galway, who took 11 wickets.
In the second innings Galway had taken five for two off four overs and North Otago was struggling, seven down for only 12 runs. But the pace went out of the pitch after tea.
Of the batsmen, only J. Barnes, C. Aitken and D. Bishop impressed. Barnes drove fluently for 33 in the first innings while Aitken hit out for 21.
Bishop scored an aggressive 35 in the second innings.
