Two out of three isn't bad, the manager of the North Otago representative cricket team says.
Bill Rushton reported this morning that North Otago had defeated Southland by three wickets in their zone 6 game played in Alexandra yesterday. This followed a win over Central Otago on Saturday and a loss to Metropolitan on Sunday.
"We achieved our target.
"We figured we would not have had much chance of defeating Metropolitan which is a strong team, but to win the other two was good.
"It was just what we had aimed for" he said. Yesterday Southland batted first and collected 103 runs. For North Otago Paul Odell continued his successful weekend taking three for nine from 3.4 overs and Neil Rushton took three for 17.
North Otago opener Craig Wilson gave North Otago a good start, scoring 38 but seven wickets were lost in the run chase.
"We were confident enough we could get those runs but at one stage the game could have gone either way," Mr Rushton said.
The weekend's matches complete the one day section of the zone 6 competition with Metropolitan predictably coming out on top. North Otago finished second in what team managers agreed was a successful format.
"We've all discussed it and we want to retain the three day format all at one venue. This was central for everybody and it worked well," he said.
The teams will now prepare for the two day games. North Otago will play Central Otago in Oamaru on January 8 and 9, Dunedin Metropolitan in Oamaru January 23 and 24 and Southland in Invercargill on January 30 and 31.
