Waitaki Boys High School played its way into the Borton Cup semi finals with a 108 run win over Valley at Weston on Saturday. Competition leaders, Albion, beat St Kevin's College by 88 runs and Union had a hollow six wicket win over Oamaru. In the Borton Cup semi finals next Saturday Albion will play Oamaru, and Union will play Waitaki Boys High School. Oamaru and Waitaki Boys both finished with 65 points but because of Waitaki Boys winning record against Oamaru it was promoted to third place.

Valley sent Waitaki Boys in to bat at Weston, a decision it was rueing as Sean Eathorne(128) produced his fourth club century of the season and along with other opener Hayden Tisdall(74) guided Waitaki Boys through to 278 for nine in its 50 overs, Nick Webster took five for 22 off six overs for Valley.

Valley lost two wickets in the first three overs and battled from then on. Solid batting from Webster(43), Neil Gilbert(26), Nathan McLaughlin(30) and Geoff Mavor(22) saw Valley through to 170 before the final wicket fell in the 47th over. Matt Day and Eathorne both claimed three wickets and Jason McGimpsey took two for 20.

Albion decided to bat first against St Kevin's College and was dismissed for 207 in the 39th over. Dylan Winter hit out for an unbeaten 43 with Peter Cartwright(28) and Marshall Smith(22) adding to the total. Paul Stratton took four for 63 and Sean Robertson, three for 44 for St Kevin's.

None of the College batsmen made an impact and the final wicket fell at 119 with Paul Odell and Brad Kernahan taking three wickets each and Winter, two for 27.

There was no need for overtime in the Union/Oamaru game. Oamaru won the toss and batting first was dismissed for 46 in the 22nd over. Chris Ware took five for 16 off his ten overs and Brad Fleming claimed two wickets off two balls. Union dawdled through to 47 for four in 19 overs with Jeremiah Shields(21) the main contributor and David Sewell took three for 18.
