Otago Leads North Otago On First Innings

North Otago was dismissed for 137 in its first innings in the match against Otago played on the University Oval, Dunedin yesterday. Otago replied with 205 and at stumps North Otago had lost one wicket and had scored 26 runs.

I. Geddes was the most impressive of the North Otago batsmen and he used a wide range of strokes to score 28 runs before being run out. He was particularly adept at using his feet to deal with the slow bowlers. P. Wright and G. Parker scored 37 and 29 respectively for North Otago.

S. James and F. Sawers bore the brunt of the Otago bowling, James capturing three wickets for 34 and Sawers two for 37.

The feature of the Otago innings was the batting of Southlander, J. Gill. A left-hander, Gill scored 64 in 70 minutes. He has a fluent range of strokes and hit six 4's and one 6.

R.T. Hunt (29), T. Flaws (27) and K. Craig with 19 helped considerably to build up the total.

The North Otago bowling was not dangerous, but M. Sandri showed hostility at times and A. Kelman, keeping a length, deserved his four wickets for 36.

The umpires were Messrs G. and D. MacDonald.
