In a thrilling finish North Otago drew with Otago in the last day of the cricket match played at the University Oval yesterday. Otago, batting a second time was still 11 runs short of winning at stumps and North Otago required one wicket for victory.

North Otago set Otago a hard task when it scored 276 in the second innings. This left 209 runs needed for the outright win and the batsmen - especially W.S. Haig and J.A. Gill - set about making them with purpose.

The North Otago fielding stood up well to the calls made upon it and only on a rare occasion was a ball fumbled and boundary shots were chased all the way to the fence.

The North Otago batting in the second innings was in direct contrast with the first knock. Five players made respectable scores, two of those being over 50.

The wicket-keeper and captain, I. Geddes, who batted well in the first innings, hit the ball hard and often for an attractive 64. He was assisted by M. Sandri (59 not out), P. Wright (39), M Collings (33) and A. Kelman (26).
