In the representative cricket match between North Otago and a Canterbury XI, North Otago continued its second innings this morning, the batsmen and fieldsmen having to contend with a strong southerly wind blowing straight dawn the pitch.
The wicket was still playing very truly and favoured the batsmen more than the bowlers.
The overnight batsmen Kerr and White continued to bat quite freely against a strong attack, the bowlers taking full advantage of the wind. White playing one of his best knocks for North Otago picked the right ball to hit, being particularly strong on the leg side. Kerr also batted nicely but when on 26 he was caught in the gully of Prouting.
Ellis was the incoming batsman but had only made two when he was bowled by Prouting.
Graham joined White, and the latter, with a fine shot from the Canterbury slow bowler, Gallop, brought his 50 up, made in 118 minutes. Graham was also batting quite freely at this stage. When on 59 White was bowled after batting 131 minutes. With a White's departure a rapid change came over the North Otago innings, and bowling into the southerly wind the Canterbury spin bowler, Rapley, took four quick wickets. From four 120, the score board read eight for 127 at lunch with Graham not out 27.
