North Otago gained first innings points over South Canterbury in a rain affected zone five U-Bix cup match played at Centennial Park yesterday.
Heavy rain cancelled play on Saturday reducing the two day match to just one day.
The South Canterbury side came to North Otago looking for an outright win to put it in contention for the plays off for the minor associations U-Bix Cup.
The visitors won the toss and batted first but faced only one over before declaring for five for the loss of no wickets in an effort to keep the match alive.
North Otago in reply had a shaky start losing captain Kelvin Mansfield on the first ball of the innings.

South Canterbury's Garry Ballantyne boasted the best bowling figures in the North Otago innings taking five wickets and conceding only 16 runs.
