Oamaru is the Borton Cup premier champion for 2021-22 after a dominant display in the final against St Kevin’s.

It won by seven wickets, chasing down the St Kevin’s total of 86 in the 28th over.

St Kevin’s won the toss and elected to bat at Whitestone Contracting Centennial Park Oval.

Thanks to some accurate bowling and fielding, it reached only 86 all out in the 39th over.

Jessie Valpy, who notched up 25, was the sole batter to reach a score of note as the team failed to stop the Oamaru bowlers from making constant inroads.

Opening bowler Harvinder Sandhu was key to this success, taking four for 17 in 8.1 overs, while Stephan Grobler took three for 18 off 10 overs.

Needing wickets quickly, St Kevin’s looked like it was getting back into the game with the wicket of Lachlan Brookes for 25 to leave the score at 46 for two.

Quinn Wardle and Nicholas Johnston then combined in a critical 40-run partnership which took the game away.

With the scores tied, Wardle was dismissed for 21, which then left Johnston (23 not out) to hit the winning runs.

This is Oamaru’s 35th senior premiership since first joining the competition in its inaugural season in 1899-1900, but its first since 2007-08.

Oamaru’s Robbie Breen finished his last game as captain with a Borton Cup final win.

In the Club30 final, Valley defeated the Waitaki 2nds by five wickets.

Neil Gilbert led the way with 45 while Hamish Loe made 33. Oscar Waldron picked up three for 31.

Earlier, Waitaki posted 120, Blake White reaching 37.

For Valley, Brett Crossan took three for 27, Manie Bruwer two for 11 and Hugh Slobbe two for 28.

The North Otago SIPST team claimed the YouthBlast final, beating Waitaki Don House by seven wickets. Hamish Fowler reached 43, while Tai Mclean took four for 21 in the Waitaki Don House innings.
