The first round of the new Borton Cup season was played at the weekend, with wins to Oamaru by 4 wickets over Valley, St Kevins dominated Union by 112 runs and Waitaki Boys beat Albion by two wickets in the final over.

Valley batted first against Oamaru and only reached 97 before being bowled out in the 26th over, losing their last 6 wickets for the addition of only 22 runs. Dallas Mahuika top scoring with 27, while Stephan Grobler took 4-17 and new recruit Brad Flint took 3-39.

In its chase, Oamaru, led by 38 from Nick Johnston, passed the target with 6 wickets down. Liam Mavor took 3-37, while Jack Cameron finished with 2-24.

Last year's finalists St Kevins and Union played each other at the College that saw a one-sided victory for the home side. Batting first they reached 220/6 in their 50 overs. Fowler brothers Campbell and Jacob put on 93 for the 6th wicket. Campbell bought up a half-century before his dismissal, Jacob and Hunter Growcott then pushed the total to 220. For Union, Brad Fleming took 3-40 in his 10 overs.

Union never got going in its chase. Jacob Fowler 2-26 and then Lloyd Fellowes 2-8, started the rot and then Jack Kelly 3-47 finished them of. Union all out for 109, 112 runs short of victory.

An exciting game was played between Waitaki Boys and Albion at Milner Park.

Batting first Albion made 191/10 in its 50 overs, with Tom Squire 49 and Ravi Lalia 40. Lochie Mavor 2-39, Billy Wilson 2-29, Hunter Wardle 2-17 and Samuel Petrie 2-34 took two wickets each.

Waitaki Boys timed it to perfection, winning by 2 wickets with 2 balls to spare. Jaden Dowling was 26no, while Josh Miller scored 40, Alex Wilson 33 and Logan Wilson 20. For Albion Hayden Creedy took 2-32 and Ravi Lalia 2-10 of 2.4 overs.
