Oamaru, Union and St Kevins had comfortable wins over Glenavy, Valley and Waitaki Boys respectively in the second round of Borton Cup cricket over the weekend.

The Rangers batted first at Glenavy, batting one ball short of 34 overs and making 170 all out. Opener Harry Murphy made 53, and Jordan Mulligan reached 38. Sehu Nijam made 30.

For Oamaru, Matt Brien took 3-41, Stephan Grobler 2-15 and Quin Wardle 2-16.

Oamaru chased down the required target thanks to 62 from Lachlan Brookes, Hunter Wardle (27) and Luke Taylor (46).

Union had Valley in trouble early at 4-41, but a typically aggressive innings from Cameron Grubb (55 off 41 balls) pushed the side to a defendable total of 165 all out in the 36th over. Nathan McLachlan scored late in the innings with 22, and Hunter Growcott made 22.

For Union, Liam Mavor took 3-33, Blake White 3-43 and Ben Mavor 2-45.

Valley never got on top of the Union batsmen. Jeremiah Shields (60), Blake James (23) and Alex Wilson (51 not out) led the chase, with Union surpassing Valley's total at 166-4 in the 35th over.

Waitaki Boys batted first against St Kevins, starting badly at 3-5 in the fourth over. Billy Wilson (27) and Harry Mavor (39) looked to consolidate putting on 57 for the fourth wicket, but with the loss of Wilson at 4-62 and then Harry Mavor at 5-84, this started another collapse. Waitaki were then bowled all out for 103 in the 26th over.

Liam Direen took 4-14, including the last three wickets in four balls, Jacob Fowler 2-20 and Flynn Sanford 2-24.

Openers Ben Gillies (67) and Tai McLean (18 not out) then put on 93 for the first wicket, effectively putting the result in no doubt - a win to St Kevins by nine wickets.
